Our Safari-Themed Nursery

Reese is now almost a year old and this post is long overdue. Before she starts outgrowing some of the stuff in this room, I wanted to give a mini tour and showcase what we’re currently using for her in this safari-themed nursery.

First image:

  • IKEA Mellosa picture ledges - We have a lot of books in our collection and rotate them on these shelves every few weeks.

  • IKEA Fiskbo frames 16x20 - These are very thin and lightweight picture frames that are very securely attached to the wall with these Command hanging strips, so we aren’t worried about them falling and causing severe injuries.

  • Safari animal prints from Etsy (currently 30% off) - We ordered the digital versions and printed them at Walmart.

  • Melissa & Doug Giant Plush Giraffe - This is a great quality plush and can stand well on its own. I knew I wanted one for our safari-themed room very early on and ordered immediately when it went on sale.

  • Safari wall decals from Etsy - I did a lot of research looking for the right safari wall stickers. I love that these come separately so you can stick them however you want and build your own scene. They’re great quality and came well-packaged.

  • Yi Security Home Camera - This is just a regular home security camera that can be used as a nursery monitor. We turned on the “baby cry” sound detection for monitoring and have the app on our phones and MacBook. I love the movement detection feature because I use it to track exactly when she falls asleep and wakes up.

  • Hand-me-down items - Shermag crib, Sealy Baby crib mattress, monkey mobile, and elephant rocker

Second image:

  • IKEA Torka dried bouquet - We already had this in the house and brought it to the room to go along with the theme.

  • IKEA Lindbyn mirror - This is an old mirror we used at our previous house and it fit this area perfectly.

  • IKEA 6-drawer Malm dresser - I received a couple of messages from concerned people (thank you ♡) when they saw we had this. There was a recall for this dresser years ago when it tipped over on a child. For the safety of all kids, I want to put out there that any piece of heavy furniture (especially ones with shelves or drawers) can tip over if they’re not properly anchored. I highly recommend doing your research when it comes to baby-proofing your home.

  • IKEA Risatorp wire basket - I’ve since replaced this with a different storage basket, but it holds things we’d need within arms’ reach (cotton swabs, lotion, etc.)

  • Structube velvet armchair in dark blue - We purchased this chair for our living area, but decided to temporarily use it here instead. A lot of people suggested we get a glider or rocking chair, but I didn’t think it would benefit us. My thinking was:

    • With the existing furniture (dresser + crib), we didn’t have enough space for one.

    • Didn’t want to spend additional $$ (comfy ones aren’t cheap).

    • Thinking long-term, we had no idea what we’d do with the chair later on.

    • Didn’t think I’d be sitting in the chair often (and I was right!).

I’m glad we decided against a glider because I’ve only ever sat here a handful of times and maybe once or twice to breastfeed.

  • Diaper Genie pail - It’s barely visible here, but you can kind of see it between the dresser and door.

  • Trend Lab safari animals change pad cover
